Grand tidings in Gran Canaria

The Sand Dunes of Maspalomas
With the filming of Star Wars 7 underway holiday makers who are a fan of the film franchise may be interested in going to Gran Canaria. And it's not a billion light years away instead it's a 4 and a half hour journey from UK airports. In its 17km of beautiful coastline it has sand dunes to offer in Maspalomas, south Gran Canaria. These spectacular sand dunes attracted George Lucas -the director of Star Wars- to film in Gran Canaria. However, Maspalomas has more for holiday makers than sand dunes especially for woman tourists as it is a good shopping destination. There are high street favourites to choose from such as Mango, luxury brands including Guess and boutiques if you're after some unique Spanish fashion. The oasis beach shopping centre is a modern outdoor venue home to independent boutiques, an outdoor cinema and lovely cafes.
If you're more of a history boffin Maspalomas has a column of Christopher Columbus, after his stop over in the canary island during his pursuit of the New World in 1492. In fact his stay in Maspalomas was integral to his discovery of what we know as America today, as the Atlantic Ocean provided trade winds that aided the transportation of voyages like Columbus's at the time.
Now were in the 21st century Gran Canaria still shapes up as an ideal holiday for those in need of some sun. Playa del ingles is home to a lovely and lively beach with water sports on the go and boat excursions such as the Delfin boat - Dolphin boat where you can see the loveable mammals. The islands weather is glorious with peak temperature of 32oc in the summer months. Its the perfect place for star wars fans, history lovers and sun seekers alike.
